The main mission of RI as a comprehensive tool for research and promotion of Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage is the inclusion of Bulgarian Studies issues in the European Research Area.
RI will ensure the staff professional development in the partner institutions. Young scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students will receive training to work with RI, and established researchers will apply their knowledge and skills to developing and upgrading digital resources and creating new ones. This will increase the scientific and publication activity of scientists. The only risk to the RI sustainability is the rapid development of digital technology, which requires its constant updating and upgrading. The electronic RI is still used by Bulgarian and foreign researchers.

In short term RI reduces the time of research, improves the qualification and motivation of researchers and their scientific and publication activity. In this way Bulgarian Medieval Studies become more visible and competitive on an international scale. In long term RI will contribute to the entry of Bulgarian Studies issues into the international research exchange. Particularly important in this regard is the creation of a parallel corpus of translations of Old Bulgarian writers' works into Modern Bulgarian, from which translations into other European languages can be easily made. The forthcoming inclusion of the infrastructure in pan-European networks is a further guarantee that the Bulgarian written heritage will enter into scientific circulation. More intensive cooperation between Bulgarian and foreign Medieval studies scholars will lead to the production of new top scientific research in the chosen field.
